Buniyaad
Buniyaad means foundation. It is more than a collection of articles — it is the foundation of the dream with which FairLex began: to give young voices a space to be heard.
A Platform for Young Voices
Every young person has something to say — dreams for the country, questions about inequality, emotions waiting to be expressed. Buniyaad gives those thoughts a platform.
Honest, Meaningful Writing
Writing about patriarchy, national pride, or injustice may not always be perfect, but it can be honest, meaningful, and powerful. Putting a thought into words is the first step towards understanding it.
A Space to Learn & Grow
Buniyaad welcomes young writers, including those still finding their voice — a space where students can learn, question, disagree, and grow without feeling their age makes their thoughts less important.
Dear Readers,
Welcome to the first edition of Buniyaad, the magazine of FairLex. Every young person has something to say. Some have dreams for the country, some question the inequalities around them, some struggle with family and social expectations, and others carry emotions they find difficult to express. Yet, many of these thoughts remain unheard, not because they lack value, but because young people often lack the right platform to share them.
Buniyaad is our small effort to change that. The word Buniyaad means foundation. For FairLex, this magazine is more than a collection of articles. It is a foundation of the dream with which FairLex began: to give young voices a space to be heard. We believe that every student, whether from a school or a university, deserves an opportunity to express what they think, feel, question, and hope for.
Education gives us knowledge, but expression helps us understand ourselves and others. A student may write about patriarchy because they have witnessed its effects, about national pride because they dream of a better India, or about injustice because something around them does not feel right. Such writing may not always be perfect, but it can be honest, meaningful, and powerful. Sometimes, putting a thought into words is the first step towards understanding it.
This is why we wanted Buniyaad to welcome young writers, including those who are still learning how to write and find their voice. We do not expect every contribution to be perfect. We hope to create a space where students can learn, question, disagree, and grow without feeling that their age or lack of experience makes their thoughts less important.
As Editorial Head, I have tried to keep this belief at the heart of my work. Editing is not about changing a writer’s thoughts to match our own.
